Changes to the Cultus Lake Park Board

The Cultus Lake Park Board accepted the resignation of Commissioner Bob McCrea.

Chairman Sacha Peter remarked, “I would like to thank Bob McCrea for his service
to the Cultus Lake Park Board. We wish him success in his future endeavours.”

Section 9 of the Cultus Lake Park Act allows the City of Chilliwack to appoint a
new member to hold office for the remainder of the present term.

Fire Ban in effect at noon July 31 until further notice

Please be advised that effective noon July 31, 2014 Cultus Lake Park, Sunnyside Campground and Vedder River Campground will be under a full enforced fire ban. Only CSA-rated or ULC-rated cooking stoves approved for use in Cultus Lake Park and Sunnyside and Vedder River campgrounds will be permitted.

The following are prohibited from use during a fire ban:

  • all open flame including candles, tiki torches, wood fires, decorative propane fires and any other open flame not used for cooking.  The use of hibachis, charcoal, coal, briquettes, and any type of container is prohibited.

Refer to the Good Neighbour Bylaw Section 9, page 13 for full details on fire bans.

Free Public Safety Workshop and BBQ - You're invited

All Cultus Lake residents and visitors are invited to a free Public Safety Workshop and barbecue in Yarrow on Wednesday evening, July 30. Click for more info.

MLA John Martin and the City of Chilliwack are two of the grill competitors scheduled to cook up samples for all workshop attendees, who will vote for a winner of the Yarrow BBQ Challenge. 

The hour-long workshop, sponsored by Chilliwack Healthier Community, focuses on proven, common-sense steps that residents can take to increase the security of their homes and property, as well as their personal and family safety. 

This is the third and final workshop held in conjunction with the RCMP, Chilliwack Crime Prevention Services, and the City of Chilliwack. Prior events were in Chilliwack and Sardis, but this is the first to include free BBQ samples and competition.

Saturday July 12 - Cultus Lake Day! Family Fun for All!

Come out to and enjoy the variety of events happening at Main Beach, the Community School and Community Hall on Saturday. Loads of fun, and facepainting, for all!

  • Planners will be in the Park gathering public input for the Park Use Plan.
  • Pancake Breakfast at the Community School 9 am to 11 am ($5)
  • Cultus Lake Parade 11 am (rallying at 10:30 at the School)
  • Gazebo at Main Beach Noon - Ribbon cutting and dedication of the Pathway
  • Community Dance featuring "Head Over Heels" 8 pm to midnight at the Community Hall. Tickets just $20 and are available at the pancake breakfast and at the door.

The Board adopted Bylaw 2014-02, the General Local Government Election Bylaw, In accordance with this bylaw, there will be advanced voting on November 5, 2014 and a mail-in voting opportunity for resident and non-resident property electors at Cultus Lake Park. Details will follow on the Elections page at a later date.

MLA Throness discussed a proposed electoral area boundary change. The Board supported MLA Throness' recommendation to hold a public meeting later in July. Date, time and location will be announced when available.

Removal of Non-Conforming Buoys in Foreshore

Beginning June 27, 2014 the Cultus Lake Park Public Works staff will begin the tagging of all non- conforming buoys within the Cultus Lake Park foreshore. The commencement of the removal of non-conforming buoys will take place on or after July 2, 2014. 

If you have not registered your buoy location or installed your approved Transport Canada buoy, please do so prior to July 2, 2014 to avoid having it removed by staff. For more information on boating in the Park, please visit our webpage on boating

Dogs in the Park and at the Beach

This is important information for all dog walkers and dog owners at Cultus Lake Park, whether resident, camper or visitor. The Park is dog-friendly, with the following regulations in place for the safety and consideration of all:

DOGS MUST BE LEASHED AND UNDER CONTROL AT ALL TIMES IN THE PARK. (Except when on private property, i.e. residence or vehicle.)

DOGS MUST BE WALKED ON THE PATHS TO THE DOG BEACH, NOT ALONG THE BEACH  until arrival at the designated dog beach/swim area. Dog swim areas are well marked with signs. There is a large fenced off-leash dog play area behind the Plaza.

DOG SWIM AREAS: dogs must be under control at all times when at the designated swim areas. This is for the safety of all people and dogs in the area. 

DOGS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO RUN AT LARGE in any public area in the Park, including the grassed areas and paths and trails in the trees. 

DOG DROPPINGS MUST BE PICKED UP IMMEDIATELY!

Please be advised that Park Patrol and Sunnyside Campground Bylaw Enforcement Officers will be making frequent patrols of the beach, and violation tickets will be issued for contravention of the above regulations from the Good Neighbour Bylaw.

Help keep the beach at Cultus Lake clean and safe for all to enjoy.
