Cultus Lake Christmas – Supporting the Community

This blog post was developed in response to a request from the Cultus Lake Park Community Events and Engagement Committee – which is made up of community volunteers.

Cultus Lake Christmas is a highly popular December holiday season event put on by the Community Events and Engagement Committee. The volunteers work for hundreds of hours in planning this event – taking time away from friends, family and their busy lives to contribute to the strong sense of community at Cultus Lake Park. This is a family-friendly event that grows in popularity (and fun!) each year.

The Cultus Lake Christmas event received support again this year from Electoral Area H, Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD).

Electoral Area H is part of the Fraser Valley Regional District and was established in 2014. It includes Cultus Lake North and Cultus Lake South (Columbia Valley and Lindell Beach areas).

There are eight Electoral Areas within the Fraser Valley Regional District and each is governed by one Electoral Area Director. Taryn Dixon is the Director for Area H. There are also six municipalities and each one has representatives who sit on the FVRD Board. Within the FVRD area, there are 30 First Nations, four Tribal Councils and four Treaty Associations. Soowahlie First Nation is within Area H and Area H is thankful for their ongoing help and support.

Ms. Dixon explains that they are committed to providing support to a variety of community-based initiatives throughout Area H. This includes Canada Day in Columbia Valley, Cultus Lake Day, Cultus Lake Christmas, Art on the Farm and many others. Ms. Dixon said: “These events all provide an opportunity for Area H to show off its bounty and beauty. They bring the community together and help all of us get to know each other and support each other. Working together for the common good is always a blessing to our Area.”

When asked what she likes best about Cultus Lake Christmas, Ms. Dixon replied: “I love the lights, the bonfire, seeing the little ones visiting Santa Claus, and just feeling the joy and anticipation that young and old alike have for the season.” She acknowledged the organizing committee for their continued work and effort in putting on such a wonderful event. She added: “I know it takes time from so many volunteers, but the result is a first-rate event that is valued and looked forward to by not only me, but the many, many visitors too.”
