Short-term Rental Bylaw and Policy Updates

On Wednesday, October 20, 2021 Cultus Lake Park staff proposed recommendations to the Board with respect to separating the enforcement of Short-term Rentals from process and procedure. Staff has approved and processed forty (40) Short-term Rental applications throughout Cultus Lake Park. Staff aim to reduce problems such as noise, occupancy and garbage related complaints through education, compliance and enforcement to provide a high operational standard.

Following a recent request from the community to cap the total Short-term Rentals within the Park, staff obtained a legal opinion on the matter. The Cultus Lake Park Board acts as both manager and landlord, and as a result may be liable to claims if a limit was placed on total number of Short-term Rentals.

In an effort to monitor Short-term Rentals impact on the community, Cultus Lake Park Board and staff will continue to review statistics, Bylaws and policies annually.

The following are just a few changes to the Draft Short-term Rental Bylaw that were recommended by the Cultus Lake Park staff on October 20, 2021:

1.  Following permit approval/renewal and fees have been paid, the Permittee will be 
              required to meet with the CAO or delegate annually, regarding bylaws and the
responsibilities of operating a Short-term Rental.            

             2. Within thirty (30) days of approval, the Permittee must provide the Park office with a link
to all advertisements they have placed for their Short-term Rental.

3. The CAO or delegate will hold an annual meeting with all Permittees to discuss issues
and concerns throughout the season.

Cultus Lake Park staff will make a recommendation at the November, 17 2021 Board Meeting to have First, Second and Third Reading of the Short-term Rental Bylaw and Policy. If you wish to review these documents in the draft format, please click here.
