Smallmouth Bass Info Sheet-June2020 (003)

Smallmouth Bass alert for Cultus Lake

June 18, 2020

For those angling in Cultus Lake this BC Family Fishing Weekend, June 19-21, and through the summer, please note there is a program to monitor Smallmouth Bass in the lake.

A team of fish biologists from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change and from Thompson Rivers University is tackling the issue of invasive Smallmouth Bass (SMB) in the lake.

A number of SMB have been tagged for research purposes. If you catch one of those with a visible, bright green or pink ‘spaghetti’ tag, please return it live into the lake.

If you catch an untagged Smallmouth Bass, please remove the fish from the lake; record its size, the place and time the fish was caught, and email the information to [email protected]

Canada Nature Fund for Aquatic Species at Risk is funding this project.

You Can Light Up a Tree for Christmas at Cultus Lake Park!

This blog post was developed in response to a request from the Cultus Lake Park Community Events and Engagement Committee – which is made up of community volunteers.

Who’s getting excited for the winter holiday season? You? Us? Everyone!

Cultus Lake Christmas is just around the corner – on November 29 and 30 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The Community Events and Engagement Committee’s (CEEC) event – Cultus Lake Christmas – is fun for the whole family. There are beautiful Christmas lights in the trees and reflecting off of the lake; a visit from the jolly fella himself – Santa Claus; an artisan gift market; a bonfire with marshmallows, hot chocolate and apple cider; and food for purchase. It’s all here – and Cultus Lake Christmas is the can’t miss celebration of the season.

The Christmas lights will remain on throughout December to help us all stay in the spirit of the season.

The CEEC has sponsorship packages available for those who would like to support this annual (and super fun) event!

Please see the image for information on how you can help.

See you at Cultus Lake Christmas.
