Community Policing Now in Effect

Community Policing at Cultus Lake Park is a joint venture between the Cultus Lake Park Board, the City of Chilliwack and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

This was done to establish Community Policing at Cultus Lake Park over the busy summer months. This means that RCMP officers will be stationed at the Park from the May long weekend to the end of the September long weekend, providing law enforcement coverage during the Park’s busiest season. The officers will be deployed from the new Community Policing Office, located in the Visitor Services Centre at the Park – across the parking lot from the Cultus Lake Park Office. Community Policing is in addition to the current RCMP boat patrols.

In the off-season, normal RCMP coverage will continue. The Park will reimburse the City 100% of the costs for RCMP members to perform dedicated policing services during the summer months.

Said Cultus Lake Park Board Chair Joe Lamb: “This is an important initiative for Cultus Lake Park. The community told the Board that increased security was a priority and, as a result, the Board and staff undertook an in-depth review of how we could do better in this area and Community Policing was identified as the strongest solution – by far.”

The official opening of the Community Policing Office had brief speeches by Chair Lamb, City of Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove, and RCMP Superintendent Bryon Massie. Many members of the community attended the event.

After Chair Lamb, Mayor Popove, Superintendent Massie, and Cultus Lake Park Chief Administrative Officer Bonny Bryant did a ceremonial cutting of a ribbon to officially open the Community Policing Office, refreshments were served. Said Chair Lamb: “It is an exciting day for Cultus Lake Park, and it was great to see so many community members who came to the official launch of our Community Policing.” He added: “This is a positive change for our community and it has happened because the Cultus Lake Park Board and our leaseholders – residential and business – worked together to find an effective solution to a challenge. Community Policing is yet another success story of how this Board works with the people of Cultus Lake Park. It is an exciting new initiative and we are very proud of it.”
