Sonia Toor – Cultus Lake Day Sponsor

Sonia Toor is a local Chilliwack REALTOR® with Century 21 Creekside Realty Ltd. who is passionate about community. She works with clients who are buying or selling their homes, helping them to navigate the complex process that can often be emotional and stressful. She is always focused on assisting her clients in any way she possibly can, and she feels that way about supporting Cultus Lake Day too!

This is Sonia’s first year as a sponsor with Cultus Lake Day. She explained that because Cultus Lake is such a special place – with an engaged community that puts on great events – she wanted to provide some support for the day. She added: “I am so honoured to be a part of Cultus Lake Day and I am excited to provide support for this amazing and popular event that is put on by volunteers in the community.”

You can see Sonia’s passion for her clients, and she told us that she always puts clients’ interests first, making sure that she communicates with them throughout the whole buying and selling process. She is focused on ensuring that her clients know the whole picture – and in connecting with them in a genuine and authentic way.

Envision Financial – Cultus Lake Day Sponsor

Envision Financial, a Division of First West Credit Union, is the Children’s Fun Area sponsor of Cultus Lake Day and a premier provider of financial services. They have 21 full-service branches and 16 insurance locations throughout the Fraser Valley, Lower Mainland and Kitimat regions. As a division of First West Credit Union, B.C.’s third largest credit union, Envision Financial brings innovative products like their market-leading Simply Free Account®, which offers free day-to-day banking with free unlimited e-transfers, as well as an extensive branch network and local decision making to the banking experience.

What many don’t know is that Envision Financial was formed over 70 years ago by a group of farmers and fishermen who felt that their financial needs weren’t being met by the banks.

Envision Financial has a longstanding tradition of supporting charities, organizations and events in the communities they serve, and they pride themselves on simplifying lives and helping their members and the community thrive. Every year, they make contributions to worthwhile causes in their local communities through partnerships, donations and gifts-in-kind. They are proud to partner and support events such as Cultus Lake Day to help the community enjoy where they live, work and play.

Not only does Envision Financial fully engage in the communities that they serve – and of course, that includes the Cultus Lake/Chilliwack area – they also have a signature cause program. The Full Cupboard is a 10-year, $1 million commitment to raising food, funds and awareness about the issue of hunger in our communities. The great thing about The Full Cupboard is that all food and funds collected in your community will stay in your community!

The organization has built a reputation for their community engagement, and their support of Cultus Lake Day is a perfect example of this. They are sponsoring the Children’s Fun Area that will have a bouncy castle, an obstacle course, face painting and more. They will also have a booth at the event, so be sure to stop by and say hi for your chance to win some fun prizes! (And everyone remembers how much fun their booth at Cultus Lake Christmas was!)

While the Envision Financial team will be busy at their booth, talking to everyone and helping you win some great prizes, they also let it slip that they might spend a bit of time checking out the food trucks. (Us too!) If you see them in the lineup for lunch, make sure you say hello!

Cultus Lake Park Looks BEAUTIFUL!

The Cultus Lake Park community, along with the Environmental and Public Areas Planning Committee, has been busy! We’re talking super-duper, amazing things are happening busy. (Not sitting on the deck, watching the sun setting over Cultus Lake busy… although, that sounds pretty good!) This volunteer committee is led by Commissioner Darcy Bauer (Chair) and Commissioner Larry Payeur (Vice-Chair).

Visitors and residents may have noticed some great things happening around Cultus Lake Park. One of the incredible improvements has been the work towards the restoration of green space on Fir Lane. The Committee wanted to improve the look on Fir Lane and create a useable space for the people who live in the Park. In addition, this restoration of green space is a noise buffer. It gives the residents who live there a little bit of a buffer between their homes and the more public areas of the Park.

With this project, the residents wanted to create a small forest for walking and bird watching, a place for kids to play, and an area to explore nature. This effort is also intended to improve the health of the existing trees and shrubs.

The residents put in a huge amount of effort on this and it shows. They removed truckloads of dead branches, debris and some garbage. They took on the removal and cutting back of invasive plants like blackberries and ivy, and they planted 250 native trees and understory plants. They also spread yards and yards of bark mulch. To pull all of this together, they created pathways and connected all of the elements in the area. It’s pretty safe to say that it looks fantastic!

This type of beautification really does take a community. The workforce was made up of committee members and included Fir Lane residents and other Cultus Lake Park residents who were keen to improve the area. Cultus Lake Park staff provided tools, moved heavy pieces of wood and debris, and placed rock. The bark mulch was generously donated by Brian Dyck. Jeff Bahnman of Cultus Lake Golf Club donated his time and the equipment for building the path. A special thank you goes out to resident Ralph Caravetta for his daily work at Fir Lane and for his financial donation. Money was raised by residents to purchase additional trees beyond those that were paid for by Cultus Lake Park. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who made this project such a success!

In the true nature of the Cultus Lake Park community – the Committee and volunteers created a positive, family-friendly environment to get the work done. There was lots of work, laughter, food and beverages. It was a real group effort. The space is now being used daily by kids having fun and residents taking a moment out of their busy day to enjoy this peaceful spot. Residents have taken on the watering of the area to keep this great space healthy and green!

We are fortunate to live in a community that comes together so well to accomplish so much!

Cultus Lake Golf Club – A Great Community Partner

Not only is Cultus Lake Golf Club the place to go for all things golf – it also has great food! Legends Bistro at the Lake – at the course – offers delicious breakfasts, lunches and dinners, and they are open year-round. And the course is immaculately maintained and has been designed to maximize the grounds. It is a beautiful place for a round of golf, for practicing your shots at the driving range, or to have a few drinks or a meal. It really is something special.

If you haven’t been to the Cultus Lake Golf Club recently, you haven’t seen their new (and awesome!) Toptracer Driving Range golf experience. It is winning rave reviews from golfers and non-golfers alike and it really is off the hook. There is nothing like it around. In fact, it is only one of three locations in Canada – and the only one in the Lower Mainland – where you can use this leading-edge technology.

Toptracer is a technology that uses cameras and monitors to track your shots, and it gives you games to play at different levels of expertise. Along with Cultus Lake Golf Club’s Toptracer Driving Range, there are also the Lounge Bays. This is a whole different level of fun. The Lounge Bays are perfect for bringing along friends or family who maybe aren’t that into golf – the lounge makes it so much fun for everyone! Sit back in the comfy seating and order up some appetizers and a drink from one of Cultus Lake Golf Club’s incredible staff – and you will have an amazing time.

The team members at Cultus Lake Golf Club are also great community partners. They are always ready to lend a hand, contribute to local community events, and get involved. For Cultus Lake Day, they have provided some amazing prizes. These include four exceptional prize package draws. Each prize includes:

  • Two 18-hole green fees, valid anytime
  • One 18-hole power cart rental
  • Two Toptracer Driving Range standard bay certificates
  • Four buckets of balls
  • One $25 Legend’s gift card

Everyone knows someone who would love to win one of these four prize packs! A big shout-out to Cultus Lake Golf Club – the perfect place to golf, dine and hang out. Thank you for your support of Cultus Lake Day!
